When eyes are covered, are they still the windows to the soul?
The plaster blindfold suggests vulnerability or protection, of healing, trauma, silence or self-preservation. The obscured gaze explores the relationship between how others perceive us, how we perceive ourselves, and the aspects of our stories that remain unseen. Each scar marks a moment in time, a lived memory, a testament to resilience and experience. How we acknowledge, interpret and live with these scars can shape our understanding of ourselves and of others.
Presented on a concrete plinth, the work brings together resilience and vulnerability, visible and invisible scars and the evolving process of identity, experience and selfhood.
